The church celebrates three occasions annually:
On the 24th of Bashans, the church celebrates the memorial of the entry of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Family into the land of Egypt, by commemorating the Holy Family’s rest in the cave and their use of the water of the holy well for drinking, washing and bathing, and their blessing of the place.
On the 8th day of Baounah, the church celebrates the feast of its consecration by Pope Gabriel in the year 901 of Martyrs, corresponding to 1185 A.D., after it was renewed by the children of Salsil.
From the first to the 16th of the month of Misra (August 7th to 21st), the church celebrates the Virgin’s fast and the feast of the Ascension of her body, in a solemn celebration, attended annually by hundreds of thousands of men, women and children from all over Egypt who visit the church, pray in the cave, light candles and drink from the water of the holy well and they take with them of its water in their bottles.
