The city of Mostorod is located at the entrance to Cairo – in Qalyubia from the Matareya side, on the Misr – Belbeis road. It was called in the past “Timoni Surat”.
The Holy Family rested in the cave now located in the ancient Church of the Virgin Mary, which was built in 1185 AD and was mentioned by Abu Al-Makarim in the twelfth century.
The church was also called Al-Mahma, which means the place of bathing, and it was named so because it is believed that the Virgin Mary bathed the baby Jesus and washed His clothes there. On the return of the Holy Family, they also passed through Mostorod, and the Child Jesus, glory be to Him, spawned a spring of water that still exists today.
