Holy Family Trail ..the journey to enter Egypt and return to Palestine
The map shows the journey of the Holy Family coming to the land of Egypt and the entire path from the North Sinai region to the East Delta and Delta region, then to the Wadi El Natroun region where Lake Hamra is, and from there to Greater Cairo. Then the Holy Family headed to Upper Egypt across the Nile River until they reached the south to the Mount Qusqam area and stayed there for about six months and ten days.
In the area of Mount Qusqam, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph and asked him to return to Palestine because King Herod had died.
It is said that the Holy Family, on their way back, headed to the Dranka area in Western Mount Assiut to board a boat from there.
It passed by Al-Ashmunin and the Holy Family arrived in Memphis, where they crossed the Nile from west to east until they reached the Maadi area. They continued their journey by land until they reached the area of ancient Egypt, where they stayed in the cave of “Abi Sarga.”
In Dafnar 8 of Baounah it is written: On their return, they crossed over to the city of Egypt and stayed in the holy cave in the church of Abu Sarja, and also in the camp that Christ made, where the spring of water heals every disease.
From ancient Egypt, the Holy Family moved through Aoun, Matareya, and Mostorod until they reached Sinai and from there to Palestine.
Menardus says that the Holy Family continued on their return journey and passed through the hill of Judea (Leontopolis) and then Belbeis and moved from Belbeis to the Tumilat Valley and reached Sinai, then to Gaza and from there to Nazareth, as the angel had told them.
