One of the strange events that occurred in this church is that on Friday, 3rd of Baramhat corresponding to March 12, 1976 AD, those who attended the Divine Liturgy in this church, after leaving the Mass and while they were in the outer courtyard overlooking the Nile, they saw a huge book that rose above the surface of the Nile while open. After the book was pulled out of the water it was found open at the page which has chapter 19 of the book of Isaiah, where the verse: “Blessed be my people of Egypt” (Isaiah 19:25). The book is still present in a glass cupboard, open on this page to obtain the blessing from it.
It is also mentioned that in 1986 AD during one of the trips visit rom Alexandria, one of the visitors found in a photograph he took of the Bible in the church the spectrum of the Holy Family imprinted on the Bible, so he sent it to the church and it is kept in the ancient shrine next to the Bible.
Among the important events that took place in the church, the Coptic Synaxarium reported on the 12th of Bashans the news of the departure of Pope Mark VII, the 106th Patriarch, during his visit to the church on the 12th of Bashans, year 1485 of Martyrs (May 18th, 1769 AD). So the Christians carried him from the church to the St. George’s Monastery for Nuns in Old Cairo, and he stayed in St. George’s shrine. In the morning they carried him to the Church of Martyr Mercurius in Old Cairo, where they performed funeral prayers for him and buried him there.
