His Holiness, the late Pope Anba Shenouda III, took care of the Church of the Virgin in Maadi, and ordained for it the priests: Abouna Philip Baghdadi, Abouna Antonios Attia, and Abouna Tadros Fouad in 1983 AD.
Operations of decomposition and a comprehensive restoration of the old church building began and the church was expanded to its present condition and returned to its original size by removing the walls that were standing at the west side inside the church’s nave, as it turned out that it was an integral part of the church in its old condition and they included buildings attached to it from the southern and northern sides.
In 1993, His Holiness the Pope ordained His Eminence Bishop Daniel to be the first general bishop of Maadi, Tora and Dar el Salaam.
After Bishop Daniel’s pursue, he obtained the approval of the Minister of Irrigation to make a canopy along the length of the church on the Nile, with a width of four meters, to make halls and a place for visitors to sit below and above it.
