Abu Serga Cave is located below the area of the three sanctuaries of Sergius and Bacchus church, and it is one of the holiest places in the church where the Holy Family stayed for sometime, twice; during their trip to Egypt and on their way out of Egypt.
It is a small rectangular chapel (6 m x 4.5 m) and it is about 6.30 meters underground – below the church floor and accessed from two sides by stairs, one in the southern sanctuary and the other in the northern sanctuary..
In the Cave, there is a sacred well from which the holy family drank while they were there.
